Valentine & Grace

A lot of people ask me why I am so interested into royal families. Some don’t understand and others misunderstand.

My interest was born a long time ago, when I was a little girl. You may tell yourself : “Yeah ! Of course ! Alike many little girls, she was into princesses’ stuff ! A pink and crown fan !”
Nope ! I was quite a tomboy until I was 6.

Indeed I had a Granny ! Until I was 11, my Gran was sharing my bedroom 6 months a year. Her name was Valentine, and she was born in 1906 in a very Breton farm owner family in Pléhédel, a little village in Brittany. She loved reading.

She went to school where she learnt French while she was mainly speaking Breton ; she was quite clever for a country girl as she graduated from elementary primary education early. Among others, my “Mémé Tine” loved reading newspapers and magazines, especially “Paris Match”, “Jour de France” & sacrosanct “Point de Vue et Images du Monde”. She admired the British Royal Family and had a certain admiration for HM King Hassan of Morocco.

Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth and Princess Elizabeth, circa 1939

When I was a teen, she gave me a picture of Princess Elizabeth, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret. I remember it very well because she gave it to me before I left to UK and stay with family in London for the 1st time by myself. She wanted me to give it to Her Majesty if ever. It was an old black and yellowish picture that was cut from a newspaper and glued on a cardboard a long long time before. She might have kept it for ages! Of course, I never met Her Majesty then and kept this picture from Easter 1987 until end of Winter 1997 when she got really ill. Nearly ten years after I thus tried to fulfil my promise : I wrote a letter to the Queen and joined the picture to it. My grandmother was 90 and she never saw Her Majesty’s answer.
She is the main reason I have such a passion.

Even if I master most of the Royal Families, I have my favourites : the British Royal Family, of course, the Spanish one, the Jordan one, and so many.
But the first I really identify myself, the one I admired so much that she became my role model as a child, a teenager and now an adult, was known to me sadly when she prematurely left us on September 14th, 1982.

I was just 9 years old and her life, her image, her beauty, her death rehashed in the media get into my head.
I then discovered a wonderful person, “an understanding, kind and decent human being” and get fascinated by her.
I was marked by the defeated face of her husband, the so strong “Builder Prince”, by the sorrow of not one but two nations, the one she was born in and the one she adopted.

Princess Grace of Monaco was this Lady !
I never met her but it seems I always knew her.

In this online magazine I will share some of my knowledge with you, on her, on many others, as well as on History.

So stay tuned !
